# The Emplio contributor license agreement

> A plain summary of Emplio's contributor license agreement: you keep your copyright, grant Kulp Labs a license to use your work, and sign once on GitHub.

Before your first contribution is merged, you agree to a short contributor license agreement (CLA) with **Kulp Labs**, which runs the Emplio project. You sign it once. Read the [full agreement](https://github.com/emplio-app/emplio/blob/main/CLA.md); this page is a summary, not a replacement.

## In plain words

| Part | What it means |
| - | - |
| You keep your copyright | The agreement gives a license; it doesn't take ownership. |
| Copyright license | Kulp Labs, and anyone who receives software it distributes, may use, change and distribute your contribution, under any license. This lets it be used in Emplio Cloud next to code that isn't public. |
| Patent license | A license to any of your patents that your contribution needs. It ends for anyone who sues claiming your contribution or Emplio infringes a patent. |
| Your promises | It's your own work or you have the right to submit it, your employer agrees if it has rights in it, and you name the source and license of anything that isn't yours. |
| No obligations | Your contribution is "as is". You don't have to support it, and it doesn't have to be used. |
| Law | The agreement is governed by the laws of India. |

## How to sign

**1. Open a pull request**

The contributor agreement bot comments on it.

**2. Reply with this exact line**

```text theme={null}
I have read the CLA Document and I hereby sign the CLA
```

Your GitHub username, the date and the pull request are recorded. You won't be asked again.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Contributing for a company? Before your first pull request, email **[ashish@kulp.ai](mailto:ashish@kulp.ai)** with the organization's legal name, so the agreement covers the organization and everyone it authorizes.
