# Turn on optional features with your own keys

> Email sign-in codes, a Telegram bot, web search, app connections, voice notes and webhooks each turn on when you add their key to .env.

Each feature below stays off until you add its key. Add it to `~/emplio/.env`, then apply it:

```bash theme={null}
cd ~/emplio && docker compose up -d
```

| Feature | What it unlocks | Add to `.env` |
| - | - | - |
| Email sign-in codes | Codes and team invites arrive by email instead of in the log. Uses [Resend](https://resend.com). | `RESEND_API_KEY`, `RESEND_FROM` |
| Telegram | Your team talks to Emplio on Telegram. | `TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN` |
| Web search | Emplio searches the web and reads pages. Uses [Exa](https://exa.ai). | `EXA_API_KEY` |
| App connections | People sign in to Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Zoho Books and more. Uses [Composio](https://composio.dev). | `COMPOSIO_API_KEY` |
| Voice notes | Voice messages are turned into text. Uses [Sarvam AI](https://www.sarvam.ai). | `SARVAM_API_KEY` |
| Webhooks | Automations that start when something happens in an app. | `WEBHOOK_URL` |

## Notes on each

> [accordion] Telegram bot
>
> Make a bot with [@BotFather](https://t.me/BotFather) and paste its token as `TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN`. Each person then opens **Connect Telegram** in the web app, or shares the phone number on their profile with the bot. It works in private chats only, and needs no public address.

> [accordion] App connections
>
> An app shows up in **Integrations** only once Composio has a login for it. In the Composio dashboard, set up an auth config for each app you want to offer.

> [accordion] Webhooks
>
> `WEBHOOK_URL` is this server's public API address, such as `https://emplio.example.com/api`. The installer fills it in on a server. Without it, automations that wait for app events don't fire. Some triggers, like new Todoist tasks, are checked on a timer and work without it.

## Apps that need only a key

Some apps are built into Emplio and connect with a key pasted in **Integrations**, with nothing to add to `.env`. These include Razorpay, Vercel, IndiaMART, Swipe, Fireflies.ai, MSG91, Plivo, Neon, Fly.io, Hostinger, LiveKit, Exa, Sarvam AI, OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI and Google AI Studio.
